This might be a dumb question... but do you study how to draw realistic crocodiles in order to come up with the design? I'm trying to do character designs of animals myself, and It's not as easy as it looks.
@ Elizabeth It's very good to get into the habit of learning the real animal's characteristics before designing them. Often when I'm frustrated with learning an animal, I'll draw it realistically, then lighten it in photoshop and draw over it a little more caricatured. Repeat this until you get the shapes you want. =) I've found it's a good way to find out which shapes should be emphasized.
